Este curso habla de Generación Distribuida, su definición, características, los beneficios, así como los retos para una implementación más generalizada de la Generación Distribuida. Se revisan algunas de las tecnologías más utilizadas para la generación distribuida. Estas tecnologías pueden ser tanto renovables como la energía solar fotovoltaica y energía de viento, así como opciones de cogeneración basadas en micro-turbinas, motores de combustión interna, turbinas de ciclo simple, turbinas de vapor y “fuel cells”.

Este curso trata sobre Generación Distribuida (GD), su definición, características, y beneficios, así como los retos para una implementación más generalizada de la Generación Distribuida. Se revisan algunas de las tecnologías más utilizadas, que pueden ser renovables o de energía solar fotovoltaica y de viento, así como opciones de cogeneración con microturbinas, motores de combustión interna, turbinas de ciclo simple, turbinas de vapor y “fuel cells”.
Se aclaran los beneficios de la Generación Distribuida, incluyendo los ambientales y cómo puede ser un nuevo paradigma para que los países en desarrollo satisfagan su creciente demanda de electricidad. También se analizan los desafíos asociados con la Generación Distribuida, destacando las complejidades de la interconexión de los recursos de GD con la red eléctrica. Se discuten, además, los posibles problemas de seguridad, estabilidad y potencia que pueden surgir con la instalación de Generación Distribuida como parte de los desafíos a una mayor penetración.
